Microdentistry is the dental profession's
counterpart of minimally invasive surgery. Basically stated,
microdentistry is the art of restoring the dentition using the latest
advances in materials, techniques and equipment available to allow the
practitioner to form the greatest 'tooth bank' possible. By a tooth bank,
we are referring to restoring the teeth while only taking away virtually
only decayed tooth structure, thus banking away as much healthy
tooth as possible. Many other dental
procedures require the provider to shape the tooth in a specific manner
just to get the tooth ready for the restoration. A microdentist is one who
is best prepared to not take away any healthy tooth structure
unnecessarily.
A microdentist is able to do this because of
special training, unique equipment and materials and overlying commitment
to the patient to always view the necessary treatment from this
perspective.
